Gouache-style illustration of a woman working late at her office desk with a warm desk lamp glowing beside her. She has shoulder-length dark hair and wears a teal blazer over a white top. She’s writing in a large open binder filled with printed materials. A stack of folders and papers sits near the lamp, while a coffee mug and ID badge rest in the foreground. Outside the window, a city skyline is visible at dusk with glowing building lights. The scene feels calm, focused, and introspective—conveying dedication, intelligence, and nighttime productivity.

Dame Alison Rose never planned to become CEO of NatWest. Starting as a nervous graduate in 1992, she built her leadership style by staying curious, learning from radically different managers, and treating banking as a team sport. In this story, she shares the simple career principles that shaped her rise, from the “magpie” mindset to the power of perspective and authentic mentorship.
